Advisory
TREASURY ADVISORY
includes the development and review of treasury policies, strategies, reports, controls, procedures, performance measurement systems and the identification, selection and implementation of treasury systems. We have undertaken treasury advisory engagements across a range of industries including some of Australia’s largest corporations. Our treasury reviews extend from a high-level Treasury Health Check to a more comprehensive Peer Review.
TREASURY POLICY
The treasury policy is the most important component of corporate governance over a treasury. It is the Board’s mandate to management on what is, and is not, authorised. As such, it’s important that the Policy is clear, comprehensive and current. We have had extensive experience developing, refining, reviewing and implementing treasury policies across a range of industries.
TREASURY STRATEGY
Treasury strategies are developed by management within the constraints of, and to meet the objectives of, the Board approved policy. The strategies will be adapted to reflect changes in exposures and market conditions and are designed to meet the organisation’s foreign exchange, interest rate, funding and liquidity needs. There are usually a number of strategies available to treasuries and we often help in the strategy development or review process.
TREASURY HEALTH CHECK
The Treasury Health Check, as the name suggests, is a high-level review of your treasury that highlights potential risks and notes areas for improvements in efficiency and effectiveness. It’s quickly executed (3 consulting days) and provides a comparison against similar treasuries.
DEVELOPMENT
Developing treasury reports, controls, procedures and performance measurement systems can be a time-consuming task that is best left to someone with the tools and experience to complete it efficiently and effectively. We have undertaken many of these engagements and can deliver a comprehensive solution very cost-effectively.
Identifying, selecting and implementing treasury systems is another area where specialist knowledge is required of the treasury needs, the available systems, the selection process and the implementation – including a comprehensive systems test program. We assist treasurers in all of these areas.
Support
TREASURY SUPPORT
includes providing experienced treasury and finance personnel in a seconded role on a full-time but temporary basis until a permanent replacement is found; acting as a mentor on a part-time basis where we spend time each week with less-experienced treasury personnel and coach them as they “find their feet”; and sitting on a Risk Committee as an independent participant.
SECONDMENTS
Secondments - experienced Treasury and finance specialists can be difficult to replace and it can be risky leaving an inexperienced person to “fill the role”. We have provided experienced treasury and finance personnel from seconded Chief Financial Officers to seconded dealers.
MENTORS
Mentors – doing your first foreign exchange deal, interest rate swap or funding transaction can be a stressful exercise, particularly if your predecessor isn’t around. We can provide support to inexperienced treasury personnel to help them gain confidence as they develop experience. A half day on-site per week and the ability to call when there are questions can make a considerable difference.
COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Committee Members – having an independent and experienced advisor on a risk management committee often gives management added assurance that they are not missing something, and have the benefit of an external perspective. It can also serve to confirm that the practices management is adopting are consistent with the rest of the market.
